We are suspending pig sales at this time in order to make changes on the farm. This has been a hard decision, but had to be done. We will post if we are able to start sales again.
Show and Breeding
Our show stock is currently geared toward the late summer fairs of southeast Ohio. We use our best females and select from some of the top Berkshire sires to breed these litters. We are now breeding for regional and national shows as the demand and our ability has increased. We have selected replacement females to produce the highest quality show stock. If you are looking for a boar, let us know early so that we can save out a top male before they are castrated.
Not only do they make great show stock, but they must also meet our standards for great breading stock before they are offered for sale at this level.
Price: Our best Berkshire pigs have been averaging $250 for gilts and boars and $200 for barrows at weaning.
We sell our feeder pigs when weaned at five weeks of age. All of the pigs are ear notched, weighed and given iron injections. All of the males are castrated at 10 days of age. We select for fast maturing pigs. Expect them to reach ~250 lbs in less than 6 months. These are the ones that didn't make the cut for breeding and show stock.
Price: Our pigs are priced according to production costs. At current rates, expect to pay $90/pig. If we need to hold them beyond a 50 lb. wt, expect to pay a little more as we continue feeding them.
We offer custom raised pigs for those wanting to really know where their food comes from. Simply purchase a feeder pig of your choice, have us feed it, deliver it to the processor and have it processed into your favorite cuts of meat. You can be involved as little or as much as you want to be. We can provide updates and pictures along the way or just call you when it is done.
For a timeline of the process, here is what to expect: From wean to finish is ~4 months. Animals will weigh ~250 lbs. Dressing percentage is ~75%. After processing expect to get ~125 lbs. of meat.
Not everyone is the same and may want a lighter or heavier finished pig. Many people like a 300+ lb. pig with a little more finish and flavor. Others prefer a leaner pig weighing less than 250 lbs and a BBQ pig weighs around 150 lbs. It's your choice.
